Great modern furniture for mountain homes

Most of Naka Designs’ work is made up of mountain, mountain-rustic, and ranch stewardship projects. While many of our clients are traditional and prefer the obvious interior finishes, furnishings, and art common to these types of design (natural materials, warm color tones, etc.) we like to introduce things that will lighten the space relative to the often-times heavy (and sometimes overly-upholstered) spaces that can become cliche, with light pieces that offer the image of easily circulated air (imagine wind wisping around the smoothly rounded thin legs and slipping down the curve of the back, but still clearly belonging to a naturally inspired environment).
Mid-century modern furniture offers many options for our search; when people think of mid-century modern furniture they think of Corbu’s Longue, Eames’ Lounge and Ottoman in leather, Breuer’s Wassily Chair, Wegner’s Shell Chair, Risom’s armless Lounge, and of course we cannot forget Mies’ Barcelona chair, but there are two Brazilian artisans/artists/craftspeople that many leave out:
Mr. Joaquim Tenreiro
Mr. Sergio Rodrigues
Because they weren’t birthed from the Bauhaus, Chicago, or Scandinavia, people neglect to include their works amongst the other “classics”, but classic they are, elegant, timeless, sophisticated, and of course, functional (function over form). The other pieces mentioned should not be belittled. They are well-known and held in such high-regard for obvious reasons, but let’s add a couple more to the cadre of esteemed mid-century modern furniture Gods! If Rodrigues and Tenreiro were good enough for Oscar Niemeyer, they’re good enough for us!
I’ve included an image of Tenreiro’s Cadeira chair and Rodrigues’
Kilin Armchair.
